news break - miles is freaking huge!

So, I know I haven't written about my beloved son, Miles, in a bit.  He's my Great Dane, and I'm pretty sure Terrier mix. I know, an odd combination.  But, so adorable nonetheless.

So, he started out when we got him at 12 weeks at about 19 lbs.  This first picture is from the first day we got him.  He was my favorite after he took a nap with me that Saturday afternoon.  Little did we know he had an upper respiratory infection and was sick, so he was less of a crazed puppy and more of a lounger.
Don't get me wrong, he's still a sweet pea.  Just every now and then he goes crazy train on us.  He has a route he sprints in the back yard and a particular spot he'll dig in the dirt for about 5 minutes and then he naps.  It really is one of the funniest things ever.

So, this next picture is him at about 16 weeks.  Getting bigger.

The next few are him taken last week... now almost 50 lbs!  These are of him with some of his favorite things (playing in the dirt, hanging out with the people, and sleeping).

PS - Yes, I am blogging while at work, but my Miles pictures are on my work computer and plus since I work in advertising, social networking is part of advertising and marketing, so I'm really technically still doing work... sort of.  Do you buy it?

i love me some football season

So, we're very close to my favorite time of the year... football season. Georgia football is one of my favorite things on earth. Sanford Stadium is one of my favorite places on earth. The energy is something that is indescribable to anyone who has never experienced it. And if you haven't, there's only one thing I can say -- What the hell is wrong with you?

Only kidding, of course. I don't pretend to think that my team is the ONLY team to watch and love.

My beloved Georgia Bulldogs are ranked #1 in the USA Today Preseason Poll for the first time since folks my age have seen. But, there's a lot of football to play and being that we play in the SEC (arguably the toughest conference in the NCAA), we'll have to see how it goes.

I'll be sitting (well, standing... and probably yelling most of the time) with my other Dawgs fans as we watch what we hope to be the greatest season to date. I'll see you in red and black at games, tailgates, sports bars, and my house (with the giant 8-foot Hairy Dawg!).

a good laugh

There is something really wonderful about going to a comedy club. Because for about an hour and a half, you don't have to think about anything. You just sit and listen to someone (or a few someones) go on and on about whatever they happen to go on and on about.

This weekend I went to The Punchline (if you've never been, check it out because it's a fun night -- www.punchline.com) with some of my family. It's kind of a tradition whenever one of our cousins turns 21 (if they live here in Atlanta), we go out for a couple drinks and lots of laughs. My date was my stepbrother (no, it's not some weird redneck thing, it's just because for right now Jeff has almost every Friday and Saturday taken with serving).

The headliner was really funny. Her name is Kathleen Madigan and if you ever have a chance to see her do stand up, take it (http://www.kathleenmadigan.com/). I enjoyed the Irish Catholic jokes since it's something I can definitely relate to.

But really, how often do we really get to forget about everything and just sit and laugh? I think we should take every chance we can to relax, hang out with family and friends and just smile.

the olympics are almost here...

So, we're officially less than a week away from one of my favorite every-four years events (not sure if there's a super-smart term for that frequency). The Summer Olympics. Beijing this year and I can't wait. Besides LOVING the Olympics, I do have to admit to those of you who don't know that they always make me cry. Always. The little montage they do about the athlete who overcame everything possible to get there to compete in one race, jump, dive, etc.

The best thing about the Olympics are the things we learn from them:

1. Hard work does pay off.
In the day to day crap we all deal with sometimes it can seem like hard work really only leads to more work. The Olympics prove to us this isn't true.

2. Cheaters never win.
Well, they may at first. But then a committee finds out they used steroids and they take away your medal. The only part that really stinks about this is the poor guy/girl who didn't get to stand up on the medal stand because of the stinky cheating athlete.

3. Everybody fits in somewhere.
There are all shapes and sizes of people in the Olympics. From the massive shotputter to the little bendy gymnast, it really lets us all know no matter what size we come in, there can be something for us. As long as we're not just fat and lazy :)

4. God bless America.
No matter what is going on with politics or what not, there is something about the National Anthem playing when an American athlete stands up for a gold medal that always gives me chills. Makes me grateful for all the people who have fought for our country (and those who still are). This can be translated to insert your country here, too, I'm sure of it.

So, I'll await it with the rest of the world. And something really cool for those of you near me... The City of Decatur is doing a Screen on the Green at Agnes Scott College to show the opening ceremonies at 7:30 PM on Friday, so you should come join if you're nearby!
