So, as a fairly new doggy mom (about two months and counting now), I had a bit of a scare this morning. Miles, our great dane, something else, we're not sure, mix was really restless early.
And he usually likes to sleep in.
I must admit that he was driving me CRAZY. After an extra long week at work, I was grasping on to any additional sleep I could hold onto for a strond finish on Friday. No such luck. At about 6:30 AM, I got up and he was hanging out in the living room with me. (Again, usually he's lazing about in bed still at this point... he's learned that the morning routine of mom getting ready to go to work is a really boring one for a puppy.)
When I noticed him in the light after the morning haze faded and I could see clearly, he had some little bumps on his nose. Then, I noticed them on his front legs. Then on his stomach. Pretty much all over him.
I freaked out. Jeff of course got the brunt of this freak out (tends to happen sometimes unfortunately). He called the vet for me and drove him there immediately. I tried to get ready for work so I wouldn't be late. This was iinteruppted by my bursts of crying, and scolding myself about how I was a bad mom.
Miles just seemed excited to go for a car ride with dad, though.
Poor little guy all red and bumpy and swollen. Apparently, though, he greeted the vet (Dr. Bickley... he's wonderful!) lovingly. Surprising to me since the last time he saw him, he was getting neutered.
Tonight, he's sleeping peacefully and as a mom I can relax a little. Still no telling if he got bitten/stung, or ate something (only God knows really since this puppy will try to eat about anything once) he's allergic to, but he's at least looking back to his normal self.
If I'm this crazed with a dog, I'm not sure what I'll be like when I one day have a child :)
PS - promise there will be pics soon, just don't have the camera cord right now!
